About Yoga for AS

Through years of experience of both living with AS
and teaching yoga to hundreds of people with AS,
we have created an online service providing live
classes, video tutorials and one to one coaching.

There is yoga here for you.

The yoga is modified for all forms of AS.

Meet the teachers

I see yoga as like an adjustable spanner. I aim to show you how you can harness this tool and modify it to fulfil your needs.
Jamie Boder
Yoga for AS must be safe. No injury, no flares, relieve pain. We stick at what we enjoy, and we with AS must stick at safe regular stretching, so I try to make my yoga for AS classes enjoyable.

Testimonials...

Yoga for AS classes are great, there is a real understanding amongst the members of how painful and difficult a condition AS is but also, a really positive reassurance that there is lots of things we can do to help ourselves. I learn something new in every class and after year of practice with Yoga for AS I now have real confidence that I can manage any flare by doing yoga and that I can do it anywhere, a wall or a chair are the only props I need to be able to practice comfortably and safely. It is great to have that knowledge and I will always be grateful to Yoga for AS to helping me to get there.

Jamie's understanding of AS & specific yoga practises to help combat these conditions gave me the tools to gain my mobility back. He has an amazingly approachable manner and a clear and concise way of teaching that has empowered me to keep up a consistent practice. Consequently having the most extraordinary effect on my condition. I'm off the meds and running again - I feel like a new man! Thank you Jamie.

What the healthcare professionals say

Dr. Arumugam Moorthy

Consultant Rheumatologist.
Dr. Moorthy was the recipient of NASS Best care Rheumatologist award by Patient Choice and received this award at House of Commons.
“Yoga will give you more flexibility that's what we are aiming for, we don't want any patient with Ankylosing Spondylitis or Axial Spondyloarthritis to stiffen up, when you do yoga regularly you won't stiffen up. If you don't stiffen up this means you are burning out your inflammation by doing this exercise in the form of yoga traditionally and religiously”.

Isla Butler

Retired Physiotherapist
Every axSpA or psoriatic arthritis with back pain patient I speak to, I tell them about Yoga for AS. I've also spread the word to my Leeds colleague, other  Rheum Physios from Yorkshire trusts, and our Rheum consultants. I really hope that some patients have looked you up and joined the FB page or taken a look at the YouTube page.

Dr Lettie Bishop

Professor of Exercise Immunology in the School of Sport, Exercise and Health Sciences at Loughborough University
“You don't have to do intense activity to get the anti-inflammatory effects of regular exercise and if you start an activity like yoga, you'll see the benefits to your mental wellbeing as well. So these two things together are just another incentive to move a little bit more”.

Dr Raj Sengupta

Consultant Rheumatologist at the Royal National Hospital for Rheumatic Diseases, Bath.
Lead Consultant for Ankylosing Spondylitis/ Axial Spondyloarthritis patients at the RNHRD, Bath
“In my 15 years clinical experience as a Rheumatology Consultant, people with AS do really well with an optimised stretching and exercise programme. When adherence to this programme is present, the results seen on BASMI are very favourable. The evidence is still evolving. We don’t have longitudinal studies to show that it would halt or slow the radiographic progression”.
